Wayne Rooney, 31, has sensationally rejoined Everton 13 years after leaving for Manchester United in 2004. Rooney joins on a free transfer and has signed a 2 year deal thought to be worth £150,000 a week. It is believed that United have paid up the final year of Rooney’s contract worth £15m.
Ronald Koeman said ”Wayne has shown me that ambition that we need and that winning mentality – he knows how to win titles and I’m really happy he’s decided to come home,”
“He loves Everton and he was desperate to come back. He is still only 31 and I don’t have any doubts about his qualities. It’s fantastic he’s here.”
The boyhood blue returns from Man Utd having won five Premier Leagues, the Champions League, the FA Cup, three League Cups, the Europa League and the Fifa World Club Cup. He is also United’s record scorer with 253 goals.
Rooney becomes Everton’s sixth major signing of the summer joining Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford, Davy Klaassen, Sandro Ramirez and Henry Onyekuru. Everton have also been linked with moves for Gylfi Sigurðsson and Oliver Giroud with Romelu Lukaku due to depart for Man Utd in a £100m deal as Ronald Koeman looks to continue to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.
