Unsworth wants 2 signings for U23’s that can make the first team

Everton under 23’s manager David Unsworth wants 2 signings for his academy team but stressed that the signings have to be good enough to progress to the first team or they won’t entertain it.

The blues have been linked to Tosin Adarabioyo and George Hirst and Unsworth believes that bringing in decent players will benefit the whole club, although he is willing to wait until the summer to sign them.

“You never say never but I’m hopeful of one or two,” Unsworth said.

“But if not, no problem, we’re not down to the bare bones.

“We’d love to bring quality, young players into our group but they have to be the right players, players we think are good enough to play in our first-team or we wouldn’t entertain the idea and I couldn’t go to the board and the owner and ask to bring in any player – we wouldn’t do that.

“They have to have the potential to play in our first-team.

“And I have to say, that every time I’ve gone to the board and to our first-team they have been brilliant and they have backed our judgement.”

“The sooner we can get even more quality players, players who add real value to the group, players that we foresee as having first-team potential, and the quicker we can get them bedded into the work ethic of how we got about it at Everton, the more it will benefit the players and hopefully the first-team as well,”
