Stubbs: The manager has been impressed by Garbutt
Everton under 21’s manager Alan Stubbs has been speaking about the massive opportunity presented to young England left-back Luke Garbutt following the horror injury suffered by Bryan Oviedo.
The 20 year old defender was on loan at Colchester United but was recalled by Everton manager Roberto Martinez and put straight into the blues first team squad against Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby.
Stubbs said that while it hasn’t come about in the nicest way that the youngster has to take advantage because the manager likes the look of how he plays.
“He has got a big opportunity now,” the Club’s Under-21 boss told evertonfc.com.
“It is in unfortunate circumstances but when you look at it from the other side, that’s football. When one door closes, another one opens.
“We are obviously disappointed for Bryan and the way it’s come about but it is an opportunity for Luke now.
“He has done really well at Colchester and the manager has been very impressed with the way he has played and improved his game.”
“We’ll see Luke in training and will take it from there,” he explained.
“We’ll see how far he has come, how much of a benefit the loan has been, and how he has improved not just as a footballer but as a person as well.
“It does make you grow up when you go out on loan.
“It’s an opportunity for him now and it’s basically what he makes of it.”
