Shane Duffy looking to impress Roberto Martinez
Everton defender Shane Duffy is looking to stake his claim for a chance in the Everton first team and has been told by Everton manager Roberto Martinez that he will get the chance in pre-season.
The tall Republic of Ireland defender met up with the Spaniard before he went on international duty and after impressing on his time on loan with Yeovil Town is keen to be part of the Everton first team.
“Roberto told me that pre-season was my chance to shine and he’s said to me that if I am where he thinks I am – from what he’s seen of me this season – then I’m going to be involved. And if I’m not, we’ll see at the end of pre-season what we’re going to do. It’s a big summer for me, it’s up to me.”
Duffy is keen on playing for a huge club and a team that is on the rise and says that he and the other Republic of Ireland team mates are impressed with the way that Martinez goes about it.
“It’s just the amount of planning, every stat, every little thing,” Duffy says. “I can see him going higher, but hopefully he stays at Everton.”
Seamus Coleman has been a big inspiration for the big defender and sees the way that Coleman goes about his everyday job as the way to do it himself.
“Seeing Seamus progress is brilliant for me because he’s such a hard worker and it’s a reward for how he lives,” Duffy continues. “And he’s very good to me, he says, ‘If I can do it, you can do it’ so we’ll see what happens.”
