New Everton captain Phil Jagielka says he is excited to discover the identity of the Club’s next manager.
Having completed his season with the Blues on Sunday the defender will now join up with England for back-to-back friendlies against Republic of Ireland and Brazil.
But having only worked under two managers during his 13-year club career, the 30-year-old says he’ll be keeping a close eye on any news emanating from Goodison Park.
“I had six or seven years with Neil Warnock [at Sheffield United] and now six years with David Moyes, so it will be interesting,” he said.
“I’ve not got a clue who’s going to come in, so it’s a case of go away now, we’ve got the international meet-up next week, so I’ll look forward to those games, go on holiday, spend some time with the family and see what the Club decide to do.”
Jagielka, who stood in for Club skipper Phil Neville for large parts of the 2012/13 campaign, was named as the new captain before David Moyes’ departure from Goodison last weekend.
The Scot led his side to a top-six Premier League finish in his final campaign, falling just two points short of his own record high.
And Jagielka says the quality within the squad should make it easy for whoever takes over to continue that success.
“We’d like to think so,” said the centre back when asked if the job is one of the most appealing out there. “It’s very important the board decide on the right person but there’s a great bunch of lads and we’ve had a great season, playing some great football.
“We’ve maybe been one or two players short of kicking on for the Champions League but it’s testament to the boys who have been here that we’ve been up in the top five or six for pretty much the whole season and we’ll look back on the season as a successful one.”
