    Newcastle United targeting James McCarthy transfer

    Everton midfielder James McCarthy is the subject of interest from Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez according to The Mirror.

    The paper claims that the magpies are planning a double swoop for fellow midfielder Tom Cleverley as they look to make a push to get back into the Premier League.

    McCarthy has seen his season disrupted by injury but has generally been in the team when fit.

    Rumours have circulated all season that McCarthy isn’t happy with playing a bit part role under Ronald Koeman, but the player himself hasn’t commented on the speculation.

    Meanwhile Everton manager Ronald Koeman has put pressure onto the clubs board to push ahead with moves for his transfer targets including Manchester United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
