Neville Southall: Tim Howard is playing the best football of his career
Everton Legend Neville Southall has said that he would struggle to find a better goalkeeper than Tim Howard in the Premier League.
The former Wales and Everton goalkeeper is widely regarded as one of the best keepers to ever play the game and he believes that Howard is playing some of the best football of his career at the moment.
“I think Tim has done really well,” Southall told evertontv. “I think his biggest strength is his consistency and how he has maintained that over a number of years.
“When I look at him I think ‘let’s have a look at the other goalies in the Premier League and how many would I swap with Tim?’.
“And to be fair, you would struggle to find someone who you would say is a massive improvement on Tim. People trust him, the manager trusts him.
“I still think he is at an age where he can improve and get better but he looks more relaxed since Roberto came in. He looks like a happier person, more relaxed on the ball and a more forward-thinking person than before.
“I do think in some ways that he is playing the best football of his career.”
Neville also agreed that the decision to take a rest from the USA national team was the correct one but says that it shows how committed to the club he is.
Southall added: “The number of flights Tim made was not good for him, his family or the Club. But he wants to play for his country and that is a real pull for him.
“I think it was difficult for him to make that decision and it took a lot of soul searching but it shows his commitment to Everton and that he wants to be here for a long time.”
