    My Everton Player and Young Player of the Season.

    It’s that time again. Time where Evertonians discuss who gets their vote for Player and Young Player of the Season. The voting opened a few weeks ago so if you haven’t voted yet, make sure you get to the Clubs Official Site and vote!

    Player of the Season:

    There are a few players you could pick as standouts for Everton this season; Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka, Seamus Coleman and Marouane Fellaini to name a few, all putting in top performances to help Everton be where they are in the League. However, for me there was a clear winner for this award, Leighton Baines. Yes you can argue that without Fellaini’s goals we wouldn’t be 6th in the table, but at the same time you could argue that without Baines’ consistency we wouldn’t be there either. Baines consistency and attitude towards this Football Club is the reason why I voted him my Player of the Season. Compare that to Fellaini who has many a game looked like he couldn’t be bothered and also repeatedly talked to the press about his Everton future, Baines NEVER does this. Not saying Fellaini isn’t, but Leighton Baines is a model professional, no ego, no bigheadedness, just gets his head down and does what he loves… Playing football for Everton Football Club.
    I’ve always said that we would miss Leighton Baines more than Marouane Fellaini if we were to sell him and I still stand by this. When Leighton plays good, Everton play good, simple really. After all, how can we not vote the Best Left Back in the World as our Player of the Year? I dare somebody to try and name a better LB, because quite frankly, there isn’t.

    Young Player of the Season:

    This one was a lot harder than Player of the Season for one reason alone; barely any youth has played this season, but that’s a separate issue altogether. For this award my original thought was Seamus Coleman, but he is too old, so after Coleman came Bryan Oviedo who when he has played has produced some really solid performances, a player who I think will be a top player for Everton. But, when we played Arsenal AWAY I knew who I was voting for… Ross Barkley. Yes, Ross Barkley gets my vote for Everton Young Player of the Season. Arsenal AWAY is never an easy game but Ross stood out, it was a really solid performance from the youngster one which deserved another start against Sunderland(which he never got). Not only that but if you speak to Sheffield Wednesday fans they will tell you what a good play our Ross actually is. The highlight of that Arsenal game for me was when Ross did Arteta with a lovely piece of skill, was just brilliant! Ross has a huge future in the game and I really hope we can keep him during his twilight years because he really will be one of the best this country has produced.

    So as always, I ask Twitter who they voted for as their Player and Young Player of the Season and here are a few of the replies;

    @Andy_NSNO: Leighton Baines and Bryan Oviedo.

    @HJEFC92: Leighton Baines and Conor McAleny.

    So leave your views on who you voted to be this year’s Player and Young Player of the Season. Leave reasons WHY!
