Mirallas: Everton have broken promises and my relationship with Martinez is awkward
Everton winger Kevin Mirallas has given a scathing interview in Belgian newspaper De Standaard accussing Everton of breaking promises this season after moves to Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid were thwarted in their attempts to sign the Belgian in January.
Mirallas went on to say that the club needed him to stay due to a poor league position, but didn’t play as much as he thought he would which has led to an awkward relationship with Roberto Martinez.
He said: “Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid were interested [in January], but Everton obliged me to stay at the club.
“I understood because our young group had performed below expectations. So I had to stay.
“But in the second half of the season I was suddenly playing less games. There are promises broken and it makes for a somewhat awkward relationship with the coach. Soon, I will have a conversation with him.
“I have had a beautiful three years with Everton. I have experienced many great moments and for that I must thank the club. I don’t know whether I will leave, it is a decision I have to make in consultation with my family.”
Should Mirallas have kept this in house?
