McGeady: It’s not ‘hopefully we’ll go there and win’ but ‘we can go there and win’

Aiden McGeady has praised the positivity that manager Roberto Martinez drills into his Everton team and says that the belief that the manager instills really helps his team when they have to go to tricky teams like Chelsea.

Everton travel to the capital on Saturday to face a strong Chelsea team who are challenging for the title and McGeady feels that a win against the Londoners would really send out a message that teams shouldn’t take Everton lightly.

McGeady told evertontv: “I think it would send out a message that we’ve got to be taken quite seriously.

“I think we already are to be honest, having already beaten Chelsea at home this season, having beaten Manchester United away and having played well against the big teams. It would be nice to beat them home and away though. That would be great for us.

“I’ve played against Chelsea a couple of times before in the Champions League when I was at Spartak Moscow. We did okay at home but got a bit of a doing at Stamford Bridge, so you know it’s a difficult place to go. But the good thing about this league is that anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“I don’t think Chelsea have lost there under Mourinho for quite a while, so it’s going to be difficult.  They’ve got a team littered with world class players, but I think our team’s quite underrated as well, so there’s every chance that we could do something there.”

“With the records some teams have got, there were places you’d go knowing you’ve got a chance but that it’s unlikely that you’re going to win. But I think the manager here instills that belief in you that you can go anywhere and win.

“It’s not ‘hopefully we’ll go there and win’ but ‘we can go there and win’.”
