    McCarthy to be the subject of a £20m bid?

    Everton are set to have their resolve tested as Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a £20m bid for midfielder James McCarthy according to the Mirror.

    Spurs could also use Aaron Lennon as a makeweight in part of the deal as they look to beef up their pursuit of the Republic of Ireland international.

    The 24 year old has been one of the top performers at the club under Roberto Martinez and is rumoured to be a little dismayed that a contract he was promised when he joined the club has not been forthcoming.

    Other senior Everton players have signed new contracts at the club and although McCarthy is very happy at the club, broken promises could prove key.

    McCarthy has impressed Evertonians since signing from Wigan Athletic and risen to become one of the clubs most important players – So pressure goes back to the board to get him the deal he deserves.
