Martinez:  We want to make sure we start the season well

Everton manager Roberto Martinez wants to make a really good start to the season and believes that the pre-season friendly away to Swindon Town at the weekend is the perfect way to start getting in shape.

Everton have a nearly full squad travelling down to Wiltshire and will look to introduce as many players as they can in the game.

“The Swindon game will be a perfect introduction playing-wise as we will be able to get 45 minutes’ playing time for most of the players in our squad ahead of us travelling to Singapore,” Martinez told evertonfc.com.

“Logistically, the game fits in well in terms of our preparation overall.

“We have enjoy some good groundwork during the first few days in training and the game at Swindon and the week we then have in Singapore will follow what has been a build-up week full of volume at Finch Farm.”

“From the very beginning, we want to make sure that we start the season well and carry that on,” added the Toffees chief. “In our first 10 games we will face teams which finished in the top eight of the Premier League last season, so it is a very challenging start.

“But that’s what we are preparing for during these weeks, to make ourselves as strong as we can be early in the campaign.”

How do you think Everton will do in their first 10 games next season?

  1. Well he needs to get Bills wallet out then.
Ospina, Dann and Austin for starters, I’m sick of us looking at loans and frees, we are looking like also rans already. Quite frankly it’s embarrassing.
I’m dreading another season depending on whether Lukaku feels up for it or not, he needs serious competition and that isn’t Kone.
    Get a shift on Bob.
