    Martinez: We are frustrated

Everton manager Roberto Martinez feels very frustrated that some very good football hasn’t resulted in 3 points and highlights the game at Norwich City, which many pundits said was the most dominant 45 minutes of football this season, as a perfect example.

Everton dropped points against Norwich and Bournemouth after scintillating first half football was followed by drab error strewn football, but Martinez says there is still reason to be excited.

“No, no. We are frustrated because if you watch the game and the first 45 minutes, as many pundits will tell you – not people affiliated or attached to our football club – that it was the most dominant away performance in the league.

“So, for 45 minutes, to have that and not have the game wrapped up is frustrating.

“But then, when you’re finishing the game, and you’re looking at the consistency in our performances, without getting the three points, you see we are getting very close.

“That’s what happens when you try to achieve something big like what we are trying to do at Everton, it doesn’t come overnight.

“It has been a progressive work and you look at the individual performances and the way we are learning as a team is something to be very much excited about.

“But now is the time we need our fans, now is the time we need everyone at the football club, to make sure we carry on with that belief and incredible potential we have to reflect it in the scorelines consistently.”

“There is a frustration, there’s no two ways about it,” he added. “You always look at the manner you drop them. At Bournemouth, it was the last kick of the game. At Crystal Palace and Norwich, they come from corners which is very disappointing because it is very unfortunate, as well.

“Luck plays a big part of games but you just feel if we would have played those games 10 times, we would have won nine.

“That’s something you have to cope with mentally, as well how you react to that.

“There is a frustration that we dropped six points, but a real comfort is that it’s not the last fixture of the season, we’re not even halfway through, and we have to make sure those draws are important with a good victory at the weekend.”
