Martinez says no more Jan transfers if Traore signs

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says that there will be no more transfers in January if Lacina Traore joins the club on loan, but says that talks are at an advanced stage and doesn’t expect the injury to AS Monaco’s star striker Radamel Falcao will affect his chances of signing the Ivorian.

Falcao suffered what looked like ligament damage in the 3-0 win over Chasselay Monts d’or Azergues after scoring the first goal and was stretchered off in the first half of the game, but Martinez doesn’t believe that this will have an effect on the transfer.

The Blues manager said: “I hope not. It was shocking news around European football when a player of the quality of Radamel Falcao gets a long-term injury.

“We hope that is not something that should affect the decision to allow Lacina to go out on loan. I think it would go down to what the player needs in his development and I hope that (Falcao’s injury) would have no bearing on the decision.

“We are really far down the line and it would be a real disappointment not to compete it, so we will see what today brings.

“We have got the work permit and we feel quite excited about bringing Lacina to Everton.”

Having already brought in Aiden McGeady and being close to Lacina Martinez feels that his work in January is done as he doesn’t feel he can get the value in the players he is signing

He said: “That will probably be it, the main two targets was a striker and Aiden McGeady”
