Martinez: Naismith has an intelligent footballing brain, he is a managers dream
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has hailed super sub Steven Naismith following his Hat-trick against Chelsea but warned he might not start against Swansea City.
The Catalan says that the Scot is a managers dream and says he is a joy to work with because he has such a footballing brain but has warned he wants to make it tough to break into the first team regularily.
“With Steven, he is such an incredible professional,” Martinez said
“He is an incredible influence and I always said that I really enjoy working with Steven because he has such an intelligent footballing brain. He’s a manager’s dream, really.
“Then you have to understand that we want to build a winning squad and something that can achieve something special, so it is going to be tougher and harder to get playing time for any player.
“That is what you want to be part of.
“As a manager, you want to make it very, very tough for a player to play, rather than being given a game because that is the only way you can improve the level of the side and achieve things.”
“Clearly, at that moment, we couldn’t replace Steven Naismith,” he said.
“It wasn’t something that we could afford to do to lose such an important player like he is, even though he was finding himself not starting games.”
Should Naismith start at Swansea City?
