Martinez: Mirallas is delighted and happy with his football
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that Kevin Mirallas is happy with his football and doesn’t see it as strange that the winger wants to look at a contract in the summer.
Speculation has been rife over the Belgian, but Martinez insists the player is still on a long term contract and says it is good that the player wants to see where the club is going at the end of the season before new discussions.
“Kevin is on a long-term contract,” said the Everton boss. “It’s not as if his contract is up at the end of the season.
“I think the conversation was taken out of context a little bit and Kevin is delighted and happy with his football.
“But I think it’s only normal to see where we are as a football club before he signs a new contract or decides what he wants to do. It’s normal. I don’t see him not doing anything now as a sign of anything.
“We haven’t changed. Our ambition is to get into the Champions League. Of course, we’ve been in a massive dip and it’s going to be hard to achieve that in the league.
“But as a football club, we have not changed at all our long-term ambition. The long-term ambition is to get into the Champions League and we will carry on working towards that.”
