Martinez: Hibbert is ready to be a big part of the squad and can play at left-back
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has praised veteran right back Tony Hibbert and says that with the injuries that the squad has, Hibbo can play out of his natural position because of his experience.
With Leighton Baines potentially injured and Bryan Oviedo not quite fit enough yet Hibbert could be asked to fill the breach at left-back and Martinez has no qualms about chucking him in.
“We have players that can play in that position. Tony Hibbert has bags of experience and is able to play out of position,” explained Martinez.
Hibbert has already made six starts this season, after spending almost the whole of Martinez’s first season as Blues boss on the sidelines.
“For two years Tony has been very unfortunate with little niggles and little injuries and this time, for the first time, he had a very good pre pre-season and didn’t miss a single session,” explained the boss.
“His body has benefited from that and his performances have been terrific in really demanding roles, at Anfield, Old Trafford and away at Lille. He has been very impressive.
“He is enjoying his football and is ready to play a big part in the squad. That’s exactly what we need. With his experience on the pitch as well it’s a double bonus.”
