Martinez: Europa has affected our league form, the stats show that
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has blamed the sides run in the Europa League as the reason that his sides league campaign has been so poor.
The Catalan says that you only have to look at the stats of teams that have competed in the Europa League in the past to see that it does have a massive effect on the league.
“Continuity is what you are looking for. It wasn’t easy to get people like Gareth and Romelu on permanent deals, but we achieved that. We got players with an extra year’s experience.
“But the reality is we got stuck with a couple of things that have stopped us replicating last season. Playing in Europe – and you can look at the stats of teams that have been involved in Europe for the first time – has a massive impact in the league.”

It’s not just Europa but that has played a part. We haven’t been cute enough tactically particularly against the more ordinary teams. I’m not sure if this is down to Bobby M or that some of the players themselves aren’t up to it.
We need a stronger squad in defence & attack particularly.
