Martinez: Coleman has come through training really well
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Seamus Coleman should be fit for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and that Lacina Traore should also travel, but Antolin Alcaraz and Romelu Lukaku will miss the game.
Coleman has been out with a minor injury recently, but has still missed a number of week and John Stones has had to fill in at right back – but Coleman looks to be fit and raring to go and this will be a massive boost to Everton as they face a Spurs team that have been rejuvenated under Tim Sherwood in the race for a Champions League spot.
“Seamus Coleman has come through training really well,” Martinez confirmed at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.
“Antolin is going to be out of the weekend but it’s nothing to be worried about, it’s just trying to get him back to full fitness and Romelu Lukaku is going to be out this weekend and probably the week after, so it’s a couple of weeks for him, I don’t expect it to be any longer.”
Martinez also confirmed that new loan signing Lacina Traore also has a chance of making it after stepping up his training routine. The big Ivorian hasn’t been fully fit since arriving from Monaco.
“He has got a chance [of travelling],” confirmed Martinez.
“Lacina is progressing really well. I just need to assess if it’s wise or not to give him playing time. he is fully fit from a medical point of view, it’s just a matter of giving him the right playing time over the next two or three weeks because the last thing we want is him to push himself and suffer as a result of trying to get the tempo and physicality of the premier league.”
