Martinez: As a football club we encourage our young players to develop
Roberto Martinez says that he has 100% faith in his young players and feels they are ready to step into the fray if need due to a squad that is once again being blighted by injury.
Luke Garbutt and Tyias Browning have been on the bench for the last few games and they were joined by 16 year old Ryan Ledson. Garbutt made his debut against Southampton as regular leftback Leighton Baines took a knock and Martinez was delighted with the youngster.
Martinez told evertontv: “What is satisfying is that as a football club we encourage our young players to develop.
“If they are ready, they will get opportunities. You don’t want to have first team players missing with injury and on the day we probably had one or two too many – but the reality is that the youngsters are ready.”
“Luke Garbutt had his Premier League debut and that is phenomenal news for everyone at Finch Farm and at the Club in general.
“Ryan Ledson, at only 16, has worked with the first team extremely well so it’s positive for him (to be on the bench).
“Tyias Browning as well has been involved and those are real positives going into the future.”
