Lukaku interview proves what a remarkable young man he is

Lukaku interview proves what a remarkable young man he is

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has given an incredible insight into his mind in a great interview in the Telegraph where he explains that he feels that he can dominate Vincent Kompany and Eliaquim Mangala because he is bigger and stronger than them.

The Belgian striker also says that his aim is to become the best striker in the world and he is always looking to learn from players like Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa, who he feels are currently at the top of their game.

“I know Vincent and I know Mangala from years ago. I know what to do,” said Lukaku. “I am taller than them. I am bigger than them. So I am not scared. It will be a very good physical battle but I will try to dominate as much as I can. If I let myself be dominated by Vincent and Mangala I know I am in for a difficult game but if I win the physical battles I know I will have a good game.”

“Yes, because I can see a pass sometimes. If I know the defender’s coming, I can turn from him, dribble past somebody else and then give the last pass,” he explained.

“If I add that, and it comes out on a consistent basis, then I can add that to my size, power and pace. Sometimes Costa’s on the edge. I’m not on the edge. I’m like this; if I get the ball and start running, just get out of the way, because you’ll be on the floor.”

Asked if he can be better than Costa and Aguero he said:

    “Yes. Yes,”

“Because there are some aspects in my game where I have the potential. I have that but it has to come out. If you want to be one of the best you have to look at the best. For me at the moment that’s men like Costa and Agüero.

“Costa has that combativeness. He terrorises defences just with the look in the opponent’s eye. You know he’s there. With Agüero he can run in behind, come to feet, hold the ball, dribble past a few players. That is what I like. You have to look at these players and compare yourself. You have to look at them and think, ‘what do you have that I don’t?’ and add it to your game.”

“You want to be the best player you can. To win the most titles you can – that’s about looking forward,” he said. “If you don’t have ambition to be one of the best, someone will always come and take your place. There are a million players in the world who want to play in the Premier League, or even just be in the squad, so why not have that ambition? At this moment I just want to fight, to be the best I can be every single day. I had a full pre season this time and did well.”

“I knew last week at Southampton I would have a good game. I only missed one week of full training in pre season. I knew this year would be good. I want that consistency like all the big players have, I want to work, work, work. I love that competition.”
