Kone: I want to score in the derby to go down in history

Everton striker Arouna Kone has said that he would love to score the winner in the Merseyside Derby as it would mean that he would be placed in the Everton history books.

Kone missed last seasons derby matches and the game earlier in the season through injury but watched from the stands and loved the experience and now wants to do his part on the pitch.

“I’ve played for PSV against Ajax in my time in Holland, I’ve played in the Sevilla-Betis and Valencia-Levante derbies in Spain. They are all big games but this one is so different.

“The fans here just live for the game so much – they don’t sit down and relax for one second. Both sets of supporters are right behind their sides and I’ve experienced this from being in the stands at a couple of these games. Now, having seen it from the stands, it is going to be great to experience it on the field.

“I was injured last year when we came up against them so I didn’t get to play in that particular fixture. The main thing is that I hope the result is in our favour and we can put on a good display and grab the points which will move us further up the Premier League table.”

He added: “It would be the dream to score in a derby game, especially in this particular derby which I considered to be one of the best in this country. If I was to score, it would provide a great memory and something I would never forget for my entire career.

“If it turned out to be the winner, it would be fantastic because you would almost go down in history. It would be a top, top moment.”
