Jones: Cleverley could play as the Number 10
Everton assistant manager Graeme Jones has praised the versatility of new signing Tom Cleverley and says that the midfielder could even play in the number 10 position.
Cleverley has impressed in a short space of time and Jones believes that Clevs versatility could be key to their season.
“He is definitely one who falls into the ‘versatile’ category,” he told evertontv. “Tom can play centre midfield, on the left and the right, he can play in the holding midfield positions – he could even play as the number 10.
“Off the ball he will never let you down. And when he turns on that left foot he plays forward.
“It is a case of getting the balance of the team right. There are two-and-a-half weeks to go before the season starts and he still has to earn his place in the team.”
“We know him previously and it’s nice to see the improvement in him,” added Jones. “When we worked with him at Wigan you could see that he was an intelligent footballer that was both technically and tactically aware.
“Working with him three years on, he is more mature and has a strength of character about him. You could see he was always a good character but that has improved.
“He is more assured and more confident.”
