Jagielka: We will probably make signings in the last 2 days of the window

Everton skipper Phil Jagielka has said that the club will most likely make signings very late on in the window and says that recent history tells us this will happen.

Captain Jagielka also came out in support of chairman Bill Kenwright and says that he would rather spend money wisely than turn Everton into a soulless club.

“We understand the fans are frustrated because we’ve not spent a lot this summer,” says the centre-back.

“The excitement of the transfer window (on TV) and it comes up and you’re hoping the guy presses your team and you see the green arrow and there’s this talk and all sorts.

“I understand all that but the way the window is that’s probably not going to happen until the last two days of this month.

“You forget that a couple of years ago we had to wait for Gaz (Barry), James (McCarthy) and Rom (Lukaku). I was away with England and it was a brilliant window for us.

“But up to then everyone was crying and booing because we’d not done anything.

“We’re not a team that spends £50m on someone whenever they want. Every million counts.”

But Jagielka says: “It’s easy to point the finger at the person at the top who obviously is Bill at the moment.

“But would they be happy with him selling all the young lads and turn us into a club that brings great people here, then sells, then we buy and sell and we have loads of ins and outs?

“Then before you know it there’s no continuity and no family-ness about it, we’re just a team that has 10 ins and outs every season and struggles.

“There’s only a certain amount of fans coming in for income, but on the other hand we love playing at Goodison because of the atmosphere.

“So you can’t win. Financially it would be better if we moved but ask the fans what do they want, more financial muscle and maybe less of a soul?

“Otherwise you just have to sit there and play a game of chess.”
