Jagielka – Lukaku will only get better
Everton skipper Phil Jagielka has praised Romelu Lukaku following an impressive goalscoring display in the 2-0 away victory against VFL Wolfsburg.
Jags says that Lukaku is starting to find his feet again following a long season and then subsequent World Cup and although the striker has loads to learn, Jagielka feels that Rom will only get better.
“It was hard for Rom at first,” said the England defender. “With the World Cup and the way the summer worked it was a bit different for him as it was for a few of us. He’d be the first to admit he didn’t hit the ground running but he wasn’t expected to after a week of pre-season. It’s nice to see him, finding his feet and getting a smile back on his face.
“There are still bits and bobs he needs to work on but we need to support him through the good and the bad. If he keeps scoring and playing like he did against Germany he’ll only get better. We’re not bothered about price-tags we’re just happy to have him here scoring goals.
“I’m sure a lot of teams wanted him. Maybe the big money Chelsea asked put them off and they couldn’t afford it. But out manager and chairman got the deal done and we’re delighted to have him onboard.”
