Jagielka: Confidence is quite low
Everton skipper Phil Jagielka has said that confidence throughout his team is quite low, but that it is up to the team to go about changing that and will try all they can to do this.
Jagielka feels that Everton have the squad to get out of a bad run of 4 defeats on the bounce and with a tough FA Cup trip against West Ham United and games against Manchester City and Liverpool coming thick and fast Jags feels they team need to do this sooner rather than later.
“There wasn’t much in the game, but unfortunately we seem to be getting punished really heavily at the moment,” explained Jagielka. “We’re really disappointed with the two goals that we conceded, but even then you think we might get back into the game.
“We were a bit unfortunate with Ross [Barkley’s] strike in the second half and they managed to see the game out.
“We’re very frustrated at the moment because results are a lot poorer than we expect, but it is up to us to turn the corner. It is going to be a tough week or so before the next league game and obviously with the FA Cup around the corner, we need to turn the season around.
“I think confidence is quite low throughout the team due to the results. We’ve got some really talented players and we’ve been playing some okay football but, unfortunately, the results haven’t shown that.”
“It’s only up to us pick ourselves up, to start performing better and hopefully start winning games.
“Winning games is our priority whether it be in the league or the cups. We need to start getting some confidence back, scoring goals, keeping clean sheets – all the things you would expect from a top class team which we are.”
