Jagielka: 4 players in the same England game shows how well we are doing
Everton captain Phil Jagielka was delighted to get an England goal in last nights friendly win over Peru and says the current crop of Evertons England stars shows how well the team is doing.
4 Everton players made the pitch lastnight with Jagielka and Leighton Baines starting the match in defence and Ross Barkley and John Stones entering the action as subs.
“I’m not sure how long it has been since four Everton lads have played in the same game [for England] so it proves how well we are doing,” Jagielka told evertontv in the aftermath of the victory.
“It was nice for Ross and Stonesy to get on and for myself and Bainesy to play the majority of the game.
“I have been getting a bit of stick because I hadn’t scored for Everton this year. It would have been nice to have got a couple more in the season.
“It was nice to get one today though – it fell in the right place and I managed to tap it home. But more importantly we won and we kept a clean sheet.”
Jagielka’s goal was assisted by Everton team mate Leighton Baines who had minutes earlier just set up centre back partner Gary Cahill.
Jagielka added: “We always know Bainesy has got fantastic delivery and the boys get excited when he goes over to take one because we know he can put it in a pretty decent area.
“Gaz [Cahill] has a pretty decent goalscoring record for his club and he proved tonight that he can get on Bainesy’s crosses as well.”
