Everton manager Roberto Martinez was pressed and probed by journalists in his Friday morning pre-match press conference about his thoughts on supporting Manchester City ahead of their game against Arsenal this weekend.
A win for Manchester City, or more importantly to Everton, a loss for Arsenal, will see the Merseyside Blues move within 3 points of the Gunners, should Martinez’s men do the job at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
Asked about whether he will be watching the match and gunning for a Gunners loss, he said “I will be watching the match. But this is only because I am a fan of football and I would be watching it anyway. I’ve had it in the past where you try to plan and pre-plan as to what might happen with fixtures and it just never happens the way that you think”.
“The best thing I’ve learnt to do is to make sure your team does the best that it can and for us that means gaining the best points total in the final 8 games”.
If the Blues do reach within 3 points of Arsenal, they have a game in hand against Crystal Palace and also a tie with Arsene Wenger’s side at Goodison park on the 6th of April.
