Howard: We need to use Southampton performance as the standard
Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard is delighted with how his team performed against Southampton but says that his side should use that as a yardstick for how they should play every game.
Howard also said that that his save from Sadio Mane was important but that is just part of his job and it helped his side go straight up the other end and score.
“It feels great,” he said of the win. “We felt like we owed them one – we got it taken to us the last couple of times we went down there. We put the emphasis this past week on coming out of the gates strong and we did that.
“In the run of the game, the save looks important but that is what I am supposed to do. Certainly it kept them off the scoresheet and we went up the other end and scored, so it looks even better.
“We hope we can achieve better than the last few seasons – that is the plan. Everyone is gunning for the same thing so we will have it all to do.
“But if we put in more performances like the one against Southampton and use that as the standard, then we will be okay.”
