    Galloway: I see myself at centre-half long-term

    Galloway: I see myself at centre-half long-term

Everton youngster Brendan Galloway has admitted that despite playing left-back for Everton when he has been in the side, he sees himself at centreback long term.

The former MK Dons player has been in terrific form, covering for Leighton Baines while he was injured at left-back, but he feels a more central role will come as he gains experience.

“I think centre-half will be my strongest position in the future,” Galloway told the Liverpool Echo.

“I have enjoyed left-back and I will continue to but the manager spoke to me and said that before I can play centre-back I need to play left-back, to pick up more experience.

“That is good for me because I am still learning the game but centre-half is where I see myself long-term.

“He says it will only come with experience and he said that naturally I will go into that position but getting the experience at left-back and seeing the game from a whole different perspective is important for my development.”

Galloway has had to give way in the side to returning left-back Leighton Baines, but has no problems with the decision.

“That’s what happens in football,” he said.

“But it was great to see Leighton back on the pitch and playing the full 90 minutes. He has had a tough time of it with his injuries so it was great to see him back because he is one of the senior players and hopefully I can learn from him.

“It’s his final delivery that I hope to take from his game and put it into mine.

“He is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League so to get to watch him every week and in training and to get all that information from him, is going to be really important for me.

“We practised in training, doing little bits all the time, and hopefully it will pay off.

“It is about being consistent with my deliveries now and having the confidence and arrogance to believe that everytime I get the ball I am going to make an assist.”

Galloway concluded: “I think that as a young player you need patience and I will be willing to wait for it and I will be working hard to try and push for that number one spot. But also looking to learn off Leighton and improving my game and get more starts.”
