    Everton’s most successful chairman to be remembered

    Everton’s most successful chairman Sir Philip Carter will have a memorial service at St Georges Hall this afternoon to help celebrate the life and remember a great man.

    Sir Philip passed away in April following a short illness, aged 87,  and will be remember fondly by Evertonians after delivering the most successful period the club has seen.

    Carter took over as chairman in 1978 following a successful stint as Vice-chairman and famously stuck with manager Howard Kendall despite supporter unrest.

    And his faith was repaid as Kendall over saw two league titles, and FA Cup win and the club’s first – and only – European trophy success.

    Sir Phillip remained the life president of Everton and was on the Everton board at the time of his death.
