Everton Under 18’s smash Liverpool 3-1
Everton U18’s spanked Liverpool U18’s 3-1 in the mini-derby at Finch Farm today. Goals from Ryan Ledson, George Green and Courtney Duffus helped the blues on their way before a late Jerome Sinclair penalty was scored as a consolation for the lacklustre reds.
The win takes Kevin Sheedy’s side to the top of the Barclays Under 18’s Premier League and the youngsters put on a performance worthy of that lofty position.
The toffees played possession football and passed the ball about with zip and vigour, whilst remaining calm and composed. In defence they bullyed the Liverpool players, hounding them at every opportunity.
The Blues also carved the first meaningful chance of the game when Duffus smashed the ball across the face of goal from the right and Joe Williams smashed over the bar from close range.
The opening goal came soon after, Calum Dyson made space on the right and crossed for Ryan Ledson, who out-jumped Daniel Cleary and Connor Randall to steer the ball home.
The second came from blues Captain George Green who smashed in a free-kick from out on the right towards goal to beat the Liverpool keeper Andrew Firth.
The third came from some decent play on the right by Dyson who swung in a cross for Courtney Duffus to deservingly nod home.
This was a typical derby match, contested keenly and when Williams was sent off for a dangerous tackle the outcome was already decided.
With 7 minutes to go Harry Charsley handballed in the area and Sinclair stepped up to fire into the roof of the net for 3-1.
Overall a cracking result for Everton and a deserved victory over their Merseyside neighbours.
