It was today reported by Portuguese paper ‘Record’ that there is high interest in Benfica’s attacking midfielder Nicolás Gaitán.
Everton Scouts reportedly attended their most recent home game, joined by Scouts from clubs Hannover, Schalke 04, Montpellier and Rayo Vallecano.
Likened to former Everton target Juan Román Riquelme, Gaitán is a tricky and skillful player who has the ability on both feet which allows him to play on either wing as well as behind the striker. With Maourane Fellaini widely expected to depart this summer, the Argentinian could be a direct replacement in the attacking midfield role. He has scored 17 goals and assisted 31 times in his 124 games for Benfica.
Another player that the Everton Scouts could have been watching is left-back Lorenzo Melgarejo, who has been linked to the Blues before.
