    Everton & Newcastle in £8.8m bid for 6ft 6in defender

    Everton and Newcastle United have had bids of £8.8m rejected by Werder Bremen for Danish defender Jannick Verstergaard according to Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet.

    The paper expects one of the clubs to go back in with a better bid but said they would expect the German club to reject as their transfer window would have closed yesterday and they would be unable to get a replacement.

    The 6ft 6in defender scored the decisive goal at the weekend as Bremen beat Borussia Monchengladbach
