Everton have today been linked with a sensational swoop for England number one Joe Hart. Man City boss Pep Guardiola is ready to drop the England international for today’s season opener at home to Sunderland and will instead opt for Willy Caballero between the posts.
Hart, 29, has been a regular for Man City for the past 6 seasons winning the league title twice, the FA Cup and also the league cup on two occasions. Everton manager Ronald Koeman has been on the search for a number one long term replacement for Tim Howard who left Everton in the Summer to go back to the MLS, and is working through a long list of targets.
Koeman’s first signing as Everton boss was the Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, who he is managing for the third time in his career. Stekelenburg is thought to be starting as number one for today’s game at home to Tottenham Hotspurs with Joel Robles on the bench. Hart, however, would represent a big signing for Everton and would bring a lot of experience and solidity to Everton’s backline.
City would be prepared to do business and ship Hart out if they secure the signing of Barcelona stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen who has been linked with a move since Guardiola took over at City in the Summer.
It remains to be seen whether Hart would be prepared to give up Champions League football for Everton and he may opt for a move abroad if his time at City is at an end.
