    Everton interested in the Spanish defensive wonderkid

    Everton have been sending scouts to watch 18 year old Sporting Gijon defender Jorge Mere with a view to signing the young centre-back.

    Everton have had scouts in attendance since February and are looking for a readymade replacement for veteran Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz who are both out of contract at the end of the season.

    Mere had been linked with a move to Newcastle United in the January transfer window but that failed to happen and his emergence has alerted Everton.

    The youngster has mainly plyed his trade for the Gijon second team, but more recently he has played 4 times for the first team only conceding 1 goal.
