Distin: Thailand was great for fitness
Veteran defender Sylvain Distin has said that the pre-season tour to Thailand was perfect for the Everton players fitness and said that people shouldn’t look into the result too much.
36 year old Distin says that may of the players had only played 45 minutes in the matches this season, so with a sticky pitch and humid conditions it allowed some players to get more time on the pitch ahead of the big kick off in under 3 weeks.
“It was very difficult,” he told evertontv. “The pitch was very sticky, it was really hot and a really heavy atmosphere but it was the same for both teams. It was difficult – but great from a fitness point of view.”
“It’s only pre-season and I don’t think any player has played 90 minutes yet, so it’s way too early to read into the result,” explained Distin. “Of course, we always try to win the game and it is better to win the game but we’re still getting ready for the season.
“It’s only the third game and the first time some of the players have played 60 minutes – most of us have played two lots of 45 minutes up to now, so no-one is really match fit.”
Distin added: “It’s a difficult trip because when you come here, you come here to work and you’re not here to visit or do anything.
“It is training, hotel, training, hotel, game. So we haven’t seen much of Bangkok but the people have been really nice with us – they are really kind, so it’s enjoyable.”
