Distin: My relationship with the manager is okay
Veteran Everton defender Sylvain Distin has said that his relationship with Roberto Martinez is okay and he understands that the Catalan doesn’t have to explain to him if he is left out.
Distin is out of contract in the summer and is unsure if he will be offered a new deal by the club, but he does want to carry on playing at some level.
“That doesn’t depend on the player, that depends on the offers you have got and if you have got any.
“The first question is to ask myself if I want to carry on playing? The answer is yes.
“The second question will be what opportunities will I have and is it going to be in England, at Everton or somebody else?
“Then it is up to me to decide if the opportunity works or not. It’s not just up to me really.”
“When you’re not involved it is always difficult,” said Distin, speaking at an EA SPORTS FIFA 15 event.
“At my age if you’re not frustrated when you’re not playing I think you should stop.
“The relationship was always OK with Roberto. He never explained it to me but I don’t think he has to, it’s the manager’s choice.
“All you have to do when you’re not playing is to try and work harder to show you deserve to play.
“I’ve never been the type of player to go knock on the manager’s door and ask why.
“I’ve always been working hard and always feeling like ‘sooner or later if you work hard you will have your chance back’.”
“At 37 it is tough and it is the reason why there is not many 37-year-olds doing it. It’s very tough. It’s tough for everybody and you can see that by how many injuries we have got.
“The body is not used to playing every three days.
“But at the same time, it is an amazing experience so we can’t complain about it.
“I feel like age is just a number.”
