Distin: It’s refreshing to have players like Barkley and Besic
Everton veteran Sylvain Distin who turns 37 today has been full of praise for young midfield duo Ross Barkley and Muhamed Besic following some eye catching performances in the 3-1 victory against Queens Park Rangers.
Barkley scored a brilliant 20 yard goal and Besic was everywhere in the match and Distin says they were a joy to play with but has reminded them that they are still learning.
“They are two young players and need some guidance from the lads around them,” said the centre back.
“They’re so willing to push forward and attack that sometimes they forget their duties defensively but as long as they have players around them to communicate and keep talking it’s all good.
“It’s refreshing for used to have players like that wanting to snap up every ball and get forward like that. It’s good.”
“This is the Premier League – it’s not easy to be scoring every week for a young midfielder,” he said.
“There will be periods when it’s quiet for him on the goal front.
That happens to even the best strikers in the Premier League so it will happen to him.
“He’s young and still learning but he works hard and people have to give him credit and a bit of time.
“We tend to rush players these days.
“A youngster has one or two games and that’s it, they’re going to be the next big thing.
“I’m from the old-school. I like to give players a bit of time and let them enjoy their football without too much pressure on their shoulders. I’m sure if he gets that he’ll evolve into a fantastic player.”
