Coleman: Big Dunc was wound up before the Manchester United game
Everton right-back Seamus Coleman says that his man of the match inspired performance against Manchester United was inspired by a talk from former Everton striking great Duncan Ferguson.
Big Dunc, who is now part of the Everton coaching team, was in the mood for this match and had told Coleman how he had twice scored winners to clinch the match against United before and Coleman said that this helped inspire the team to victory.
Coleman said: “Big Dunc told me that before the game.
“He was well wound up for today’s [Sunday’s] game and said we had a chance of being the first team since then to do it, so it was very important for us.
“Obviously we had a disappointment midweek against Palace and today was probably a must-win game.
“We knew it was going to be difficult but the manager made us forget about Palace very quickly and move on to this, and thankfully we’ve got three points.
“We just move on now wanting to finish the season strongly and hopefully we get that fourth spot.”
Everton sit 1 point behind Arsenal in the race for fourth place and Coleman still believes there is a glimmer of hope that they can sneak back in.
And Coleman added: “I still think there will be a slip up along the way and hopefully we can capitalise on that. It’s been a funny season and there’s still three games to go, so hopefully we can sneak in towards the end.”
