Cleverley injury not as bad as first feared

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is confident that the injury suffered by midfielder Tom Cleverley isn’t as bad as first feared.

The England international has been in fantastic form since signing on a free transfer from Manchester United in the summer but was caught by a scissor tackle from former Everton loanee Eric Dier while playing against Spurs.

“The physio is a little bit more positive [than he was at half-time],” he explained. “I think it is clearly ligament damage – but, straight away, we were fearing it could have been ligament damage and a fracture as well.

“It shows that Tom is a very, very fit man to be able to get through that collision with a [relatively] minor injury. He will still be out for a while but not as long as we first thought he might be – and we thank the luck that we had there.”

How big a loss will Cleverley be?
