Big Dunc: Trying to get youth through is paramount
Big Duncan Ferguson was delighted to be working with the first team squad again and said that the training sessions in Austria really brought back memories of when he was a player.
Duncan was promoted to first team coach last season by Roberto Martinez and the former number 9 said that it is important to Everton to try and get as many young players through the set up and into the first team as possible.
“Being back with the first team, it’s brought back the memories, but it’s all changed now as well. The ball comes out a lot quicker than it used to!
“It’s been enjoyable though, it’s great to be back and it’s good to be working with the lads.”
Ferguson was joined on the tour by a number of players who he used to work with in the clubs under 18 set up including Matthew Kennedy and goalkeeper Russell Griffiths
“It’s been brilliant to see them stepping up to work at this level. That’s what a Club’s all about, isn’t it? Promoting from within and trying to get the youth through [is paramount]. Said the big Scot
“I’ve been really pleased with them. They’ve done really, really well.”
