Barry: The manager knows I’ve played too much
Everton midfielder Gareth Barry has said that he has played more games than he was due to this season, but that is only down to injuries that have ravished his side this season.
Barry also says that his manager Roberto Martinez recognises this and he is sure if the injuries hadn’t happened then he wouldn’t have featured in as many of the 37 games that he has done this season.
“I certainly feel as I did five or 10 years ago in terms of playing 90 minutes and my body feels exactly the same,” Barry said.
“But when you get to a certain age – and I’ve had these conversations with the manager – playing three games in six days, you just can’t recover as quickly as you did when you were in your mid-20s.
“I know that, the manager knows that, and I’m sure if the manager had players fit I wouldn’t have played as many games as I have done.
“So when this suspension came along, we agreed it would be a good thing because we have a lot of games coming up and it would give me some rest.”
