Baines: To score in the Merseyside Derby would be amazing
Everton left-back Leighton Baines is dreaming of scoring in a Merseyside Derby after failing to do so on 17 appearances and says he will expect another text from his mate asking him to score.
The England international would take a win over scoring though and feels that his side have what it takes to get the winner in this weekends match.
“Scoring would be amazing,” he said. “My mate mentions it to me every time a derby comes around – I normally get the text saying ‘a winner today would be nice’.
“But just the win would be great for us, by any means. Jags (Phil Jagielka) scored a screamer at Anfield last time out and that was brilliant. We came away with a point from that so hopefully we can go one further this time.”
“It’s always good to have many players on the team who have got derby experience. We have got quite a few but we’ve also got young players who are experienced enough to keep a level head, approach it correctly and not get carried away.
