Baines: I couldn’t stop thinking about radio horror show

Baines: I couldn’t stop thinking about radio horror show

Everton left-back Leighton Baines has said that the horror show against Stoke City that he listened to on the radio has made him more determined to make amends to Everton Supporters.

Boos rang around Goodison Park and the England Left-back was listening to the match on the radio and says that the atmosphere and performance has stuck with him and he now wants to get back to Everton of old.

“I couldn’t get to the Stoke game on so I was sat in my car listening to it on the radio,” Baines said.

“You switch it off and even though I was a few miles away I was sharing the feeling and I could almost channel into that.

“I’ve been in the dressing room before when there has been low times and it’s a horrible feeling but these last two performances are the only thing that can get rid of it.

“It lingers. When you are losing games it lingers but hopefully this last game and a half is how we need to be between now and the end of the season.”

“It was bit more of the ‘old’ us but I guess that’s the way it’s got to be with the situation we’ve found ourselves in,” Baines added.

“It was kind of us picking up from where the lads left off the other night. It was high tempo, pressing high up and mixing it up.

“I know there were still a few groans if there was a sideways pass but we never have been a long ball team. We’ve always had a bit of both, the combination and a bit of presence upfront.

“We had that back yesterday with Arouna and Rom and played it up to them when we needed to and we controlled the game when we needed to by keeping it.”

“I haven’t looked at the table in that depth, although if we had lost yesterday I might have started to, but people normally say 40 points but I think it will be less this year given by where people are at,” he said.

“Maybe it will be 36, 37, 38 or something like that but we hope we can push on from here now and we’re looking to catch the teams above us as opposed to being closed in by the teams below us.”
