In May, I like many other thousands of fans petitioned against the new crest. It was and is quite honestly basic, uninspiring and at worst amateur.
Probably the worst thing for this supporter was the Nil Satis motto which had been forcibly removed. No, actually, the worst thing about it was the clubs ignorance and dishonesty in claiming that the decision was made following consultation with the fans. When you and I knew that the matter was purely commercial and our say-so came a distant second. I actually lost sleep over the boards audacity. I was livid!
But very proud was this pot-bellied blue when the club announced that it had clearly got it wrong and in issuing its apology for the bullshit promised a period of proper consultation over the clubs crest. The on-line design questionnaire was stringent and well staged so that every fan could put their preferences forward.
And it felt like the club had enveloped itself in the task. It must have been painstaking in wanting to do things right this time. Then it came down to three, Bobby chose his favorite and like 78% of fans, I agreed with it. I just wanted to point out that our club did us all proud during this process. It should real passion in engaging with its fans and giving us all a say.
The club crest will adorn our beloved team for many years to come and the club and fans have something wonderful and proud to share again.
You took the flack and won us back. Well done board!
