Martinez: Kevin is happy with his football
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that Kevin Mirallas is very happy with his football at the moment and said that it is natural that he wants to see the clubs ambitions before deciding on his contract.
The Belgian winger has 18 months left on his current contract, although the club have the option to extend this by a further year and has said that he won’t look into any contract dealings until the end of the season.
“Kevin is on a long-term contract. It is not as if his contract is up at the end of the season,” the Everton manager said. “Kevin is happy with his football but I think it is only normal to see where we are as a football club before he signs a new contract or decides what he wants to do. I don’t see him not signing now as a sign of anything. It doesn’t make any difference whether you have a two year deal or a six year deal nowadays. If you want to move on you will do it whether you have a long term or short term contract.
“Kevin has always been very focused on developing and playing well. Look at the level of his performances in the last few games. He was completely out of the squad for the Manchester City game because of injury but worked hard to make the bench and had a good impact when he came on. Then against West Ham he was as good as he has been this season. I feel the second half of the campaign will be the best level we have seen of Kevin. The contract talks are not a concern at all. It is a long, long contract from our point of view.”
