What would the new Everton manager inherit? – My Views

What would the new manager inherit?

So Everton are looking for their first manager in 11 years following the decision of soon to be departed David Moyes decision to take over at Manchester United.  What exactly could the new manager look forward to inheriting?

    Team

Most obvious would have to be a top 6 team.  Everton, despite what some pundits would have you believe, aren’t plucky or overachieving.  We have always been one of the top teams in England (bar the dreadful 90’s).  Throughout our history we have pretty much always been at the top of the leagues and this has been re-established under Moyes leadership.  We have some very good players including a few that would fetch top dollar in the market.  We have a solid spine to the team.

    Youth

The new manager could also look forward to a decent youth set up under the watchful eye of some excellent coaches in Alan Irvine, Alan Stubbs, Duncan Ferguson and Kevin Sheedy.  We have a good batch of young players coming through, the most obvious being Ross Barkley.  Other names starting to come into contention are:

    • John Lundstram who recently helped to get Doncaster promoted
    • Francisco Junior who came from Manchester City and plays defensive midfielder
    • Matthew Kennedy, the young former Kilmarnock player who is scoring for fun
    • Apostolos Vellios, who lost his way under David Moyes, despite impressing when he played
    • Shane Duffy the imposing defender, who was similar to Vellios under Moyes
    • Luke Garbutt, the impressive Leftback who is seen as a Baines replacement in a few years
    • John Stones, the towering highly rated defender from Barnsley
    • Conor McAleny, again like Vellios made the squad, but then disappeared, but scores for fun with the U21’s
    • Chris Long, another young striker who can’t stop scoring for the youth teams
    • Tyias Browning, the young defender recognised at International level
    • Jake Bidwell who helped Brentford nearly make automatic promotion
    • Mason Springthorpe who made the first team bench as a goalie
    • Mateusz Taudul who like Springthorpe could make a decent goalie
    • George Green, the young midfielder signed from Bradford for decent money
    • Hallam Hope who is a name that has been mentioned for quite a while and plays for England at his age range

    Chris Long

    Chris Long

Obviously not all of these players will make it and I will have missed some, but there is some good talent ready to come through in the next few years.

    Chairman

Controversial to some, but the chairman would be a big attraction to many managers as he allows his managers time.  He may not have all the money and may not always lead his board to the right business decision, but Bill Kenwright would be a plus point for a manager that wants time.  We aren’t a club that likes to hire and fire and Kenwright will be seen externally as a big positive (although many supporters would disagree)

    Culture and History

The history and Culture of Everton is that of a BIG club that does things in the right way.  David Moyes acted with the grace and manner that befitted a manager of this great club and the fans would expect that the new manager does exactly the same.  The new man would be taking over a family club who are also one of the most successful clubs in England having won 9 top flight titles.  We expect a manager to act in the right way and have build a strong culture to demonstrate that.

    Fans

Last but by no means least, the Fans.  Everton supporters stick through their team through thick and thin.  We have some of the loudest most passionate fans in Britain and the new manager will certainly enjoy a Goodison welcome.  We always travel with a strong away following and the atmosphere inside a packed Goodison can be frightening at times.  We have fantastic fans and loyal fans and the new man will grow to need us and our support.

The future is definitely bright for the club.  We may not have the most money, the best stadium or the media hype of some teams, but we definitely have a collective unit and the makings of something very good.
