Paul Joyce: Manchester United and Chelsea join Barkley pursuit

Manchester United and Chelsea have joined in the race to sign Everton midfielder Ross Barkley according to the Times journalist Paul Joyce.

According to reports overnight Spurs were unwilling to match Evertons £50m demands and Barkley wanted £150,000 per week wages, although the article dismisses the latter.

The report states that the likelihood of Barkley signing a new contract looks non-existant and that Ronald Koeman remains unconvinced on the player.

Barkley only has 12 months remaining on his current contract and can leave on a free transfer once this is up, at which point he will still only be 24.

Should Barkley or the club come out and say where things stand?
