Oviedo happy to be Roberto’s wing man

Bryan Oviedo has said that he is happy to play on the right wing because it gives him a real opportunity to cut inside and score goals.   The Costa Rican normally plays as a left-back but with the return of Leighton Baines he was used in a right wing position in the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

Oviedo though is just happy to be playing and help the team.

Speaking to evertontv, Oviedo said: “I’m happy to play games. To play as a right winger, for me, is a good position, because I can have many chances to get in on goal.

“I had two good chances against West Brom but unfortunately sometimes it’s difficult.

“We are disappointed with the draw because we had many chances in the first half and we need to score those to win important games.

“We wanted to get back into the top four, so we are disappointed. I think it was a difficult game and West Brom played very well in the second half, when we lost the ball a little bit.

“We need to work for the next game now because it’s very important for us to win in the next cup game and also at Anfield next week.”

Do you think Oviedo could ever suit the wing position or would you prefer him to play in the back four?  Have your say at www.theevertonforum.com

    1. The lad deserves a chance, somewhere in the team. Always gives 100% effort whenever he plays and can pop-up with the odd goal. He is better than a squad player and too good to keep on the bench. I fear he could get restless for first team football and leave if not given his chance.

    2. Of course he can be used on the wing.As first choice? In front of Aiden or Gerard?I can see him playing more and more as first choice on the left,at the back or in midfield though. He is a realistic alternative there for Leighton and Steven. The fact that he can be utilized all over the pitch must make him one of our most valuable assets.I wonder how good he is between the sticks?I’d look out Tim,if I were you.
